Here are our picks of the week, which books did you like?
Head Lopper #1
Andrew MacLean's Head Lopper has come to Image! This series will be quarterly; it sucks to have to wait for the next issue, but this allows MacLean to not cut anything short and tell the story he wants to tell. The story is about Nargal, the baddest viking who ever lived, and his companion, the head of a blue witch. The art style is light and fun but there is plenty of heads rolling from the get-go. If you like viking culture or gratuitous violence, Head Lopper is for you.
Justice League United #13
The new creative team on this book has made it quite possibly one of the most interesting Justice League books to come out in the last several years. Anomalies are popping up all over Earth and Adam Strange has the task of putting together a team suited to fight each anomaly. What's great about this book is that each story arc has a different JL team involved. This one happens to be Batgirl, Stargirl, Robotman, Steel, Sgt. Rock, and Vandal Savage, how cool is that? Pick this one up!
Star Wars: Shattered Empire #1
This book takes place right after the final battle in Return of the Jedi. Just when the Rebellion thinks they've won, some intel comes in that shows there are still Imperials out there who mean to counter-attack Endor. Han Solo takes a special task force to investigate, and the rest you'll just have to read for yourself!
Action Comics #44
I really love Greg Pak's writing. He did a really great job with Storm's solo series and he's really nailing this Superman story. Superman is no longer the hero nor the savior of Metropolis, he's become more of a feared presence and out cast since his identity has be outed. Its definitely a new and creative situation to find Superman in, I mean... HE CAN'T EVEN FLY ANYMORE.
Legacy of Luther Strode #3
Sadly Jake can't see what I love about Tradd Moore's art but I think the dude is amazing. The story telling and the action are just fluent, and the line work just eats away at my heart. I've read all the previous Luther Strode stories and I have always just been so tickled reading it. Justin Jordan has (in my opinion) created a new legend in comic books! It ultra violent and crazy action but at the same time the characters are very real. Definitely check out this amazing book!
Secret Wars 2099 #5
The finale to the 2099 Secret Wars story. This book has great line up of characters from 2099's past and I'll be sad if some of them don't make the cut in Marvel's new universe. Peter David has done a Knock Out job with Spider-man 2099 and this story has been super exciting from the get go. I grew up reading the 2099 series and I've been so happy Marvel has brought these characters back, so this story will be a treasure held deeply in my heart.
