Here are the picks of the week, what books were your favorite?
The new Marvel Star Wars titles have been an absolute joy for life-long fans and new readers as well. Lando was one of those characters we all loved in the movies but never had the chance to learn much about. Charles Soule is letting us do that in this new series, showing us some history behind one of our favorite scoundrels. The book flows so well that you'll be dying to know what happens next.
Master of Kung Fu #4
Secret Wars has brought about a plethora of spin-off titles that span many characters in the Marvel universe. Master of Kung Fu deals with the martial arts corner of Marvel and some lesser-known characters have had a chance in the spotlight; and boy do they shine. I didn't think so much character development was possible in such a short amount of time but Blackman gives us a really great story. This is the final issue of the mini-series which makes me sad, but it's been the best in my eyes.
We usually focus on bigger titles in our weekly picks so I thought I'd mix things up a little this week. Clarence is a super funny cartoon on Cartoon Network and I always look forward to new episodes. While this will only be a four issue mini-series, each issue has read just like an episode of the show. The jokes are silly and there's something for both kids and adults to enjoy. I encourage people of all ages to give this series a read.
Secret Wars #5
*Warning, this paragraph contains spoilers from the previous issue, Secret Wars #4* Wow, what is going on in this story?! Doom, now a god in this world he has created, has just melted the face off of a Phoenix-infused Cyclops and wiped Stephen Strange from existence. This story is getting so wacky but it's drawing me in for more!
Oh man, the last page of the previous issue really had me begging for more! My biggest excitement about this book is that we will finally meet the villain of the story; and not just any villain, but a brand new one! Scott Snyder has had great success with creating new Batman villains, so I expect nothing but the best again in this new issue.
Amazing Spider-Man #20.1
Renew Your Vows has been a great book but I love that Gerry Conway is telling a good ole-fashioned Spider-Man story that we all love. Not only does it have all-out brawls but it includes detective work as well. It gives a break to what Dan Slott is currently doing with Peter's life.
