Jake and Mike's Picks of the Week- 11/4/15

Jake's Picks:

Klaus #1 Klaus is an interesting take on the man known as Santa Claus.  Even though Grant Morrison writes it, it's not a gritty reboot of Santa or anything like that.  The series simply follows a man named Klaus who tries to make an honest living, but trouble always seems to find him.

Hercules #1 There are very few characters that are more fun to read than Hercules.  All of the comics involving this character that I've read have always been a good time.  With Marvel's new reboot, Herc has been stuck with the stigma that he's a has-been who doesn't matter anymore.  But he won't let that get him down, he's out to prove that he can still be Earth's greatest champion.  Plus, Dan Abnett writes it so you know it will be good.

James Bond #1 Being a fan of both 007 and Warren Ellis, picking this up was a no-brainer.  The first pages start off with some brutal action which then transition nicely into the building blocks of what we can expect for the first part of Bond's new adventure.  Warren Ellis is bound to give us a very clever thriller with this series and I'm hooked from the get-go.

Mike's Picks:

Detective Comics #46 You guys know by now I'm eating up the whole James Gordon as Batman thing.  Now we have him helping out in the Justice League!  Just makes me wonder, what good is he going to do?  Has Jim ever been in space?  What skills could he provide a team that has completed such great feats and saved the universe on multiple occasions?  These are exciting times for Jim.

Spider-Gwen #0 I've been following these books since the first Spider-Gwen came out.  It's more of  a hipster book but it makes sense with the characters being in high school, unlike Batgirl who has been an established character and has been out of college and goes back to act all "high school."  Spider-Gwen is very fresh and very reminiscent of Spider-Man's first books.

Paper Girls #2 This book is like a modern day Hardy Boys, but...with girls.  I dig the young adventurous boyish quality of the book, bu I think it's great with a female cast.  If you loved movies like The Goonies, Stand by Me, The Outsiders, The Sand Lot, or Flight of the Navigator, then I think you'll dig this book.
