Jake and Mike's Picks of the Week- 11/25/15

Jake's Picks:

Jughead #2 Much like Archie, this book is light-hearted fun, but one that leaves you caring about what happens to the characters.  Jughead sometimes tries to play off like the cool guy who doesn't care about others, but he's a deeper character than he'd have you believe.  Chip Zdarsky (writer, Howard the Duck) brings a lot of humor to this book as well, there were parts of the first issue that had me actually laughing out loud.  And to me, that's what a book like Jughead should be.

Saga #31 Saga is back!  It's been a long four months but one of the best comics in print is back from hiatus and you don't want to miss it!  Brian K Vaughn and Fiona Staples have made a sci-fi comic that rivals all sci-fi, or just any comic in general, as the must read for your pull list.

I've been greatly enjoying the current Aquaman arc by Cullen Bunn and company.  It's not your traditional Aquaman story but I think that's why it works so well at this point in time.  We're getting a look at Arthur when he's kind of alone in the world but he still feels a responsibility to fight for his people and do the right thing.  It's saddening that Cullen Bunn will be leaving the book soon but he's really going out with a bang.

Mike's Picks:

Dark Knight III: Master Race #1 I think we can say that everyone has been waiting on this book and it doesn't disappoint.  It's refreshing to have a new artist on a Dark Knight book, especially someone as great as Andy Kubert.  Also I'm shocked on how well Frank Miller's art is in the mini Atom book within Dark Knight II.  I think this will be a fun title!

Venom Space Knight #1 Flash Thompson has come such a long way since his days in Spider-Man.  From school bully, war hero, secret government agent, to cosmic avenger.  I'm glad that Flash didn't just end up a one-sided character and it's great that he gets to continue the legacy of the Venom Symbiote.

Superman Lois and Clark #2 I think the biggest thing I like about this book is that it seems to be hinting that the New 52 is not the only DC Universe.  I also really like the idea of Superman doing a covert superhero thing, operating as a secret Superman, and as a father.  This is a pretty cool take on Superman!
